Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's basketball team was picked 27th in the CBS Sportsline.com College Basketball News preseason poll. The publication ranked the top 64 teams in the nation, with the Cardinals filling the No. 27 slot.
"We are pleased with some of the recognition we are receiving," said second year head coach Tom Collen. "If we play up to our own level of expectations, maybe we will prove some of the publications correct. We realize we have a lot of work to do and ultimately the true indication of success is what you do on the floor. Whatever recognition we receive we will continue to build. We know our day will come, just like so many of the other success sports here at the University of Louisville."
The Cardinals return four starters from last season's team that finished with a 20-10 overall record. Louisville finished tied for second with TCU in the Conference USA standings. DePaul, which was picked to win the league, was picked seventh in the poll and Memphis was picked just ahead of the Cardinals at 26th.
Louisville will begin play on Nov. 19 against Vermont in the Banknorth Classic held in Burlington, Vermont. The Cardinals will open the home season on Dec. 5 against Kentucky at 2:00 p.m. in Freedom Hall.
