Men's Swimming Tied with Notre Dame After First Session

The University of Louisville men's swimming team finished the first session of the invitational-style meet with Notre Dame tied at 45 Friday evening at Crawford Pool. The meet will continue Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with another session beginning at three.

The Cardinals started out strongly with a second place finish in the first race. The team of Matt Lees, Matt Maley, Jonathan Farnham and Andy Bieger finished .35 of a second behind the Notre Dame A team. Freshman Charlton Lawson finished first in the 500-free and Bieger won the 50-free with a time of 22.01. U of L then had a first in the 400-Medley Relay when Andrei Teudean, Christ Lindauer, Adam Madarassy and Farnham finished a second ahead of the Irish.

"I am pleasantly surprised that we are tied at the end of the first session of the special format dual meet. We are honored to host soon-to-be Big East neighbor. Notre Dame and our Cardinals have raised the competition level tonight," said Arthur Albiero, U of L head coach.

The U of L women swam an exhibition meet. Freshman Amanda Taylor set a school record in the 500-free.

"Even though we swam exhibition it was great to see Amanda establish a new record. The freshmen are still having a huge impact on the team. In my two years as head coach, our success as a program has continued to move forward in leaps and bounds."
