Gustafsson, Clark to Meet in Finals of Louisville Fall Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky - - Sophomores Jakob Gustafsson and Jeremy Clark will meet in the Flight 'A' singles finals of the Louisville Fall Invitational Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The doubles team of Gustafsson and Clark also advanced to the semifinals of the 'A' doubles flight.
Gustafsson defeated Nebraska's Joel Reckeway 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals and Toledo's Khalid al Nabhani 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals to reach the championship match of the 'A' singles bracket. Awaiting Gustafsson is teammate and fellow sophomore Clark, who beat DePaul's George Wang 6-4, 6-3 and Peter Bong of Southern Illinois 6-4, 6-2 to reach the finals.
Louisville freshman Jonathan Howard lost to Toledo's al Nabhani 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the 'A' draw.
U of L junior Mark Kennedy lost to Bellarmine's Phil Merrill 8-3 in the 'B' singles consolation draw.
In doubles action, Gustafsson and Clark teamed to beat Ross Johnson and Ketan Sagger of Indianapolis 8-2 in the quarterfinals of the 'A' doubles draw. Gustafsson and Clark will play DePaul's Mark Henderson and Wang in the 'A' semifinals on Sunday.
"I'm ecstatic to have Jakob Gustafsson and Jeremy Clark in the finals of the 'A' singles division and the semifinals of the 'A' doubles," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Last year they were freshmen reserve players, now as sophomores, they are beating the top players of a lot of competitive programs in the Midwest. This speaks volumes about depth of our team and I'm excited about this pair of sophomores' future."
