Men's Tennis Dumped By No. 14 Buckeyes

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team lost to Ohio State University 4-1 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Wednesday. OSU is currently ranked No. 14 in the Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings.

The Cardinals won the doubles point 1-0. At the No. 1 position, Cody Conley and Octavian Nicodim beat the OSU tandem of Adrian Bohane and Paul Warkentin 8-6. Louisville's Matt Mayer and Brent McCombe were defeated 8-6 by the Buckeyes' Phil Metz and Brenton Contini at the No. 2 spot while the Cards' Paulo Carvalho and Sebastian Aspillaga won the doubles point by stopping the duo of Jeremy Wurtzman and Conor Casey 8-5.

In single's action, No. 121 ranked Conley lost to OSU's No. 27 ranked Wurtzman 6-4, 6-4, at the top seed while the Cards' Carvalho lost to No. 25 ranked Metz 6-0, 6-3. At the No. 3 position, Nicodim's match with No. 111 ranked Bohane was suspended with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 1-2 while Mayer's match was also suspended against the Buckeyes' Casey ending in a 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 score at the No. 4 spot. U of L's McCombe was defeated by Warkentin 6-4, 6-4 and Alex Sivertsen dropped his match with OSU's Vince Ng 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6.

Head coach Rex Ecarma said, "The highlight of the match was Paulo and Sebastian defeating an all-american doubles team in Wurtzman and Casey at the No. 3 spot. We started off really well, but Ohio State showed why they are the No. 14 team in the country. We start off well and can compete with any team in the country. We just have to stay strong and finish teams off."

Louisville (8-14) will travel to Georgia State on Saturday, April 6.
