MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell to No. 25 Virginia Commonwealth 5-0 Saturday at the Blue Gray National Invitational in Montgomery, Ala.
VCU claimed the doubles point, as Martin Ott and Mats Norin defeated Alex Sivertsen and Jake Kirts, 8-4. Fernando Sanchez and Daniel Casquero also won by an 8-4 score, over Matt Mayer and Brent McCombe. The doubles match between Louisville's Cody Conley and Octavian Nicodim and VCU's Florian Marquardt and Pedro Nieto was suspended.
The Rams won all four singles matches that were completed, each in straight sets. Louisville's Paulo Carvalho fell to Nieto 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2, while VCU's Ott defeated Nicodim 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3. U of L's Matt Mayer lost to Danny Casquero 6-1, 7-6 at the four seed and Sivertsen fell 6-3, 6-1 to Julian Lousao at No. 5. All other singles matches were suspended.
