Men's Tennis Shuts Out DePaul 4-0

CORPUS Christi, Texas - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated DePaul 4-0 Friday, March 8 to advance to the semifinals of the HEB National Championships. It was the Cardinals' second win over the Blue Demons in two weeks.
Louisville took the doubles point as Cody Conley and Octavian Nicodim defeated Robert Kurek and Andy Michael 9-7 at the top seed and Matt May and Brent McCombe teamed to beat Sam Davidson and Robert Kotroczo 8-6 at No. 3. DePaul's Jevgenij Cariov and Dan Bennett topped Alex Sivertsen and Adam Maskill 8-1 at the two-seed.
In singles action, Nicodim topped Kurek in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3. The four spot saw Louisville's Sivertsen edging Kotroczo 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, and McCombe beat Neil Johnston 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6 to clinch the Cardinals' win.
"Our team overcame a very tough DePaul team," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "We played with 30 mph winds, and very bad lighting. I'm really proud that we overcame the adversity. This win advanced us to the semifinals of a very prestigious tournament."
