Men's Tennis Loses To Memphis

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team lost to the University of Memphis 4-1 in the 2002 Conference USA Weekend at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Sunday. U of L is currently ranked No. 61 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings.
The Cardinals lost the doubles point 1-0. At the No. 1 position, Cody Conley and Octavian Nicodim beat the Memphis tandem of Ben Stapp and Lee Walker 8-4. Louisville's Matt Mayer and Brent McCombe were defeated 8-6 by the Tigers' Joe Schmulian and Michael Chamberlain at the No. 2 spot while the Cards' Alex Sivertsen and Paulo Carvalho dropped a tough match to Alex Bucewicz and Michael LaHaie 9-8.
In single's action, the match between Conley and the Tigers' Richard Magney was suspended with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 1-0. At the No. 2 spot, Carvalho lost to U of M's Stapp while Nicodim's match with the Tigers' Schmulian was suspended with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 2-0 at the No. 3 position.
At the No. 4 spot, Sivertsen fell short to the Tigers' Walker 7-5, 6-4. Louisville's only point came when Mayer defeated U of M's Bucewicz. Memphis put U of L away when Chamberlain defeated the Cards' McCombe 6-3, 6-3, at No. 6.
Louisville (4-9) will play host to Wright State at 11:00 a.m. and Southern Illinois at 4:00 p.m. on March 1 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
