Men's Tennis Falls To No. 23 Washington

Seattle, Wa. - The No. 55 University of Louisville men's tennis team fell to No. 23 ranked Washington Huskies 4-0 in the Great Northwest Shootout at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center on Friday.
The Cardinals were down 1-0 losing the doubles point when Washington's three doubles pairs earned victories. In the No. 1 position, Cody Conley and Octavian Nicodim were defeated 8-3 by the Huskies' Christoph Palmanshofer and Alex Vlaski. Paulo Carvalho and Alex Sivertsen lost in the second position 8-6 to Matt Hanlin and Dillon Ruby. In the No. 3 spot, the Cardinals' duo of Matt Mayer and Brent McCombe fell to Washington's Peter Scharler and Ari Strasberg 8-2.
In single's action, the Cardinals' Carvalho lost to No. 44 Hanlin in the No. 2 singles spot 6-2, 6-1. At the No. 5 position, U of L's Sebastian Aspillaga was defeated 6-2, 6-3 by the Huskies' Scharler. Washington clinched the victory when Conley fell to No. 53 ranked Vlaski 6-4, 6-2 in two sets.
After Vlaski clinched the single's point, matches were suspended for Sivertsen, Nicodim and Mayer. Washington improves to 6-0 on the season.
Louisville (3-6) will play Indiana State in doubles late Friday night. The Cardinals face Northwestern on Saturday, February 16, at 10:00 a.m. followed by singles matches with Indiana State later that evening.
