Men's Tennis Edged by Michigan State

East Lansing, Mich. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team was defeated by the Michigan State Spartans 4-3 Sunday at East Lansing, Michigan.
The Cardinals won the doubles point as the tandem of Cody Conley and Octavian Nicodim began the match with an 8-4 victory over Michigan State's Eric Simonton and Jimmy McGuire at the top seed. The Spartans responded with Chris Mitchell and Andy Formanczyk topping Alex Sivertsen and Adam Maskill 8-6. Louisville's Matt Mayer and Brent McCombe helped clinch the doubles point by edging Michigan State's Adam Hourani and Goran Topalo 9-7 at the three spot.
In single's action, Conley defeated MSU's Mitchell 6-1, 6-2. The Spartans answered when Formanczyk topped Paulo Carvalho 6-2, 7-5, and Topalo led Michigan State to their second single's point by defeating Sivertsen 6-3, 6-4 at the three spot.
Nicodim answered the Spartans at No.4 by handing Simonton a loss with scores of 6-2, 6-4. At No.5, Mayer lost to McGuire 7-5, 6-0 while McCombe was defeated 6-3, 6-2 by Cameron Marshall at No. 6.
Louisville (3-5) will travel to Seattle, Washington to play the University of Washington on Saturday, February 16.
