Louisville Men Place Seventh at Cardinal Cross Country Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's cross country team placed four runners in the top 60 to finish seventh overall at the Cardinal Cross Country Classic Saturday at the U of L Shelby Campus.
Samford University finished with 50 points to win the 18-team event. Wayne State was second with 76 points, followed by Southern Indiana (88), Chattanooga (104), Otterbein (144), Murray State (144) and Louisville (189). Southern Indiana's Joey Byrne won the 8000-meter race with a time of 25:11.0, narrowly edging Gediminas Banevicus of Chattanooga by less than one second (25:11.9).
Freshman Tim Kaiser led the Cardinals for the second straight weekend by finishing 24th with a time of 25:57.4. Senior Mike Horan came in 33rd with a time of 26:12.0, followed by senior Tim Franxman (40th) and sophomore Brian Hurst (58th).
The Cardinals return to action Oct. 19 when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet.
