LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated visiting Ball State 4-3 Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

Louisville took the doubles point as the team of Joachim Lien and Alex Sivertsen defeated Michael Westerhof 8-3 at No. 1 and Oliver Cantrell and Jake Kirts beat Jason Pressel and Andrew Seni 8-6 at the three-spot. BSU's Chris Varga and Nick Vizzone topped Louisville's Brent McCombe and Cody Conley 8-6 at No. 2.

In singles action, U of L picked up straight set wins at Nos. 1, 4 and 6. Lien defeated Westerhof 6-2, 6-2 at the top seed, while Conley defeated Seni 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 and McCombe won a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Vizzone at No. 6.

"The team fought through a lot of adversity today," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "We had lost three very close road matches to top 20 teams that we could have won. Then our No. 1 player, Tvrtko Kujundzic goes down with an injury which moves every player to a different position in our lineup. It takes heroic effort to fight through the adversity, and we answered the call. Hopefully this will give us momentum to defend our C-USA championship title in two weeks."

Louisville (17-7) will play host to Butler and Southern Illinois in a doubleheader on Thursday, April 12 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Match times are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively.
