Men's Tennis Falls to South Florida

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team lost to top-seeded South Florida 4-2 Saturday in the semifinals of the 2001 Conference USA Championship.
The Cardinals began the match by taking the doubles point as Cody Conley and Paulo Carvalho edged Jorge Escallon and Nadim Naser 9-8 at No. 2 and Oliver Cantrell and Brent McCombe won over Max Dockhorn and John Shah 8-4 at the three-spot.
Freshman Matt Mayer posted Louisville's only singles point with his 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6. South Florida's Paco Antelo defeated Kujundzic at the top seed 6-0, 6-2, while Joachim Lien went to three sets, but fell to Wetzel 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2. The Bulls' Boric Babic edged Carvalho 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4 and Cantrell lost to Dockhorn 6-2, 7-5 at No. 4.
U of L (21-8) will play Charlotte for third place Sunday at 10 a.m.
