NEW ORLEANS - Charlotte Edges Men's Tennis 4-3 in Conference USA Tournament
The fourth-seeded University of Louisville men's tennis team lost a hard-fought battle to the No. 3 seed Charlotte 4-3 in the Conference USA Tournament's third-place match.
After the 49ers earned the doubles point and a fast win at No. 2 singles from Jacob Nordwall to take a 2-0 lead. Louisville rallied, taking the lead with consecutive wins from Cody Conley at No. 4, Matt Mayer at No. 5 and Brent McCombe at No. 6. The match came down to No. 3 singles. Louisville's Oliver Cantrell led 4-6, 6-3, 4-3 late in the third set. However, Charlotte's Joachim Peterson rallied to pull off a 7-5 third-set win to clinch the victory for the 49ers.
The Cardinals (21-9) finish the season fourth C-USA standings.
