
Men's Tennis Blanks Michigan State

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team shut out Michigan State 7-0 Monday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Cards won the doubles point as the team of Tvrtko Kujundzic and Joachim Lien defeated Eric Simonton and Mike Hodge 8-5 at the top seed. Cody Conley and Brent McCombe beat Mike Jonckheer and Adam Hourani 8-6 at No. 2. Rodrigo Abucham and Jason Chen combined for the Spartans' only win of the match, a 9-8 decision over Oliver Cantrell and Alex Sivertsen at No. 3.
Louisville swept the singles as Kujundzic defeated Simonton 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1. LIen won over Hodge 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2. Paulo Carvalho prevailed at the three-spot as he was winning 4-6, 7-6, 3-0 when Johckheere retired. Cantrell defeated Hourani 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4. Conley won over Abucham 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5. Freshman Matt Mayer clinched the shutout when he edged Josh Efros 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(4) at the six-spot. Michigan State falls to 6-9.
"Tvrtko and Joachim showed us today why they are two of the region's upper echelon," said Louisville head coach Rex Ecarma. "I have confidence that any one of our players can win in pressure situations. Our next two matches are on the road against NCAA tournament teams. We're looking forward to it."
U of L improves to 15-4 on the season. The Cardinals travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. to face Western Michigan.
