KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Louisville won the third place match over ETSU 4-0 Sunday at the O'Charley's Tennis Classic. Louisville led from start to finish and raised their season record to 8-3.
"I feel good about how our players responded and bounced back after a tough loss to NCAA finalist VCU," Louisville head coach Rex Ecarma said. "We were extremely disappointed last night about letting VCU get out of our grasp. We had them down in all four singles matches, but we came back today and played with a lot of heart shutting out the defending Southern Conference regular-season champions. Now we are just looking forward to improving as the season progresses."
Louisville first took the doubles point winning the first two doubles matches. The third match was not finished after the point had been decided due to time constraints. The Louisville duo of Cody Conley and Brent McCombe won their match at the No. 2 position over Marcos Pavlovich and Jaun Yanuzzi 8-5. Louisville's Jake Kirts and Oliver Cantrell then clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 victory over Francisco Diaz and Pablo Sahagan in the No. 3 match.
