Louisville, Ky. - Louisville used a 18-6 run to start take control and defeat Coppin State 96-45 on Wednesday night in Freedom Hall. Senior guard Marju Sober led the Cardinals with 16 points and Sara Nord added a double-double with 12 points and 12 assists.
"I thought that they were very focused on the defensive end," said head coach Martin Clapp. "I thought everybody was a lot more focused and ready to play. When you score the first 10 possessions of the game that gets you jump started. Tonight the offense started the defense because we were able to score and set up our zone defense."
The Cardinals had five players in double figures and outrebounded the Lady Eagles 39-28. Louisville finished the game shooting a season-high 58.1 percent from the field and a season-high 53.8 percent from the three-point line.
Midway thought the first half Louisville went on a 14-0 run to go up 36-11 with eight minutes remaining in the half. The Cards shot 61.3 percent in the half and forced 12 turnovers to lead the half 49-22.
The Cardinals will travel to Columbus, Ohio to play in the Women's Sports Foundation Tournament. Louisville will face Ohio State in the first round at 8:00 p.m. on Friday night. The game will be aired live on Insight channel 8.
