Louisville, Ky. - Senior guard Marju Sober scored 10 of her 19 points in the first five minutes of the second half to lead the Cardinals to a 105-74 win over the Ohio Legends in exhibition play on Sunday afternoon. Senior Kara Kessans added 15 points and point guard Sara Nord added 12 assists.
"Defensively I thought we did a few good things in the second half," said head coach Martin Clapp. "I never doubted that we could score and that is not going to be a problem this year because we've got enough weapons.
"Defensively we've got to continue to improve. I think defense and rebounding are the two things that are going to be our achilles hill this season against the better teams that we play. so we have to improve on those things. But overall I am pretty well pleased."
The Cards shot 49.4 percent from the field and 51.2 percent in the second half. The Cardinals also outrebounded the Legends 50-41. Junior transfer LaKisha Hoffman led the way with eight boards and Kessans chipped in seven.
The Legends were led by Larecha Jones of the Charlotte Sting with 20 points. Fomer Ohio State standout Marcie Alberts addeed 17 points, including five of 10 from behind the arc.
The Cardinals will open up the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 20 against Evansville at 7:00 p.m. in Cardinal Arena.
