Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team defeated Drury University 5-1 tonight in Cardinal Park. The Cardinals improve to 4-7-1 on the season.
"It was nice to win at home," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "It was good to get a chance to play a lot of players that don't get to see much playing time. This team is better than their record suggests."
Louisville got on the board early in the first half when forward Simon Bird converted a on cross from Courtenay Commmander at the 13:55 minute mark.
Bird then scored off a free kick, shooting around a wall of Drury defenders in the 23rd minute of play. Transfer Andy Tsartolias added another goal at 32:56 mark to increase the lead to 3-0 with an unassisted blast from 25 yards out. Bird completed a hat trick flicking in a beautiful cross from teammate Tsartolias off the wing wrapping up the Cardinal attack in the first half.
Drury's Michael Myere scored off a cross from teammate Buddy Coulter late in the first half to send the teams to the locker room with a score of 4-1.
With fifteen minutes left to play in the game Nathan Stevens was fouled from behind in the box by Drury's Ryan Shuette resulting in a penalty kick for the Cardinals. Stevens capitalized on the penalty to go up 5-1 to end the game.
The Cards will host East Carolina on Thursday night, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Cardinal Park.
