Red Team Prevails 105-102 in the First Red and White Scrimmage

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's basketball team faced off in their first Red and White scrimmage on Wednesday night in the KFC Yum! Center. The Red team was able to hold off the White team's second half charge for a 105-102 win.
Quentin Snider led the White team with 27 points and three assists, which was good enough to lead all scorers for the game. The Red team's top scorer was newcomer Tony Hicks with 26 points. The Red team's Donovan Mitchell led both sides in assists with seven and added 22 points of his own. The White team's Jaylen Johnson was the top rebounder in the game as he pulled down 20 boards and added 21 points.
The White team went on a 14-0 run in the first half with a four three-pointers from Ryan McMahon and one from Snider to take their largest lead of the game at 13 points with 6:28 left in the first half. McMahon ended the game going 6-8 from behind the three-point line for 18 points.
A 20-2 run, lead by two three-pointers from Mitchell, gave the Red team a 59-50 lead going into the half.
The Red team turned up the pressure in the second half forcing 16 second half turnovers. They forced four turnovers on five possessions to go up 14 with 6:08 to go. Ray Spalding led the way for the Red side on defense with 15 rebounds, five steals, and five blocks and added 18 points of his own.
The White team surged back with help from Snider as he scored or assisted on five of their last six possessions.
Freshman V.J. King did not disappoint scoring 19 points adding three assists and two steals for the Red team.
The Cardinals will play the final intrasquad scrimmage on Friday, Oct. 21 in the KFC Yum! Center at 7 p.m. Tickets for the scrimmages are on sale for $10 at the UofL Ticket Office, located near Gate 2 of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium at 2800 South Floyd Street. The ticket office is open weekdays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Cardinal fans may also purchase the tickets by visiting Ticketmaster online at www.Ticketmaster.com, calling 1-800-745-3000 or by visiting any Ticketmaster Ticket Center, including statewide Kroger locations. Convenience fees are applied with Ticketmaster orders.
Tickets are available for UofL students to each scrimmage at no charge. Student tickets must be obtained with a valid student ID in advance at the UofL ticket office.
