LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Kenny Brown scored 13 points, the last four on two game-clinching layups, to lift Saint Louis to a 67-64 win over Louisville on Tuesday night.
Marque Perry scored 20 points to lead Saint Louis (10-13, 4-6 Conference USA), which snapped a four-game losing streak.
Reece Gaines scored a career-high 37 points, but missed two 3-point tries in the final minute, for Louisville (13-8, 4-6 Conference USA).
The Billikens trailed by as many as six early, but finished the first half with a 15-5 run, limiting Louisville to one field goal over the last 6:21.
Gaines dunked 11 seconds into the second half, but the Cardinals committed five straight turnovers and trailed 38-32.
The Cardinals still trailed 49-42 near the 12-minute mark when Gaines exploded for 12 straight points.
His deep 3-pointer from the wing with 8:14 left gave Louisville a 54-51 lead and gave him 31 points, a new career high. Gaines scored 30 in Friday's 96-77 win over South Florida.
Ellis Myles sank two free throws with 7:52 remaining, but a three-point play by Brown and two free throws by Perry tied the game again.
The teams traded baskets before Gaines sank his sixth 3-pointer of the game for a 63-60 Louisville lead with 3:47 left.
Perry sank two free throws with 3:18 left, and Brown added another free throw with 2:07 left and scored inside on a putback with 1:15 left to put Saint Louis up 65-63.
Gaines made a free throw with 53 seconds left, but Brown hit a wide-open layup with 23.6 seconds to go for the final margin.
