
Men's Basketball Drops Decision To East Carolina, 87-77

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Travis Holcomb-Faye had 20 points to lead four Pirates in double figures as East Carolina beat Louisville 87-77 on Wednesday night.
It was the first Conference USA win for the Pirates (7-9, 1-3), who shot 50 percent for the game and hit 31 of 48 free throws. The Cardinals (11-4, 2-2) shot 35.6 percent and shot 15-for-24 from the charity stripe.
Leading 43-38 at halftime, the Pirates shot 52.4 percent and hit 19 of 28 free throws in the second half. Louisville made it to the line only four times in the half and shot 35.7 percent.
The Pirates also hit eight of 14 shots from 3-point range.
Brandon Hawkins scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half for the Pirates. Gabriel Mikulas had 14 points, while Moussa Badiane had 10 points and six blocks.
Louisville's Reece Gaines led all scorers with 21 points. Erik Brown and Bryant Northern each scored 14.
The first half featured nine ties and 10 lead changes. The Pirates, however, inched into the lead late in the first half. Hawkins was 4-for-4 from 3-point range in the period.
