
Men's Basketball Falls To South Florida

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Cedric Smith scored 18 points and Chonsey Asbury added 15 as South Florida nearly blew a 21-point lead in beating Louisville 73-67 in a Conference USA game Wednesday.
After taking a 45-24 lead early in the second half, South Florida saw its lead get sliced to five points three times in the final 90 seconds.
Marques Maybin had 28 points for Louisville (8-13, 4-4). Cardinals' guard Reece Gaines, who is averaging 14.6 points, did not play because of a back injury.
South Florida (14-6, 6-1) was without second-leading scorer B.B. Waldon, who was suspended indefinitely by coach Seth Greenberg on Tuesday for unacceptable behavior. Waldon is averaging 17.3 points and a team-best 7.2 rebounds.
A 14-5 run, which ended on a layup basket by Erik Brown, got Louisville within 70-65 with 43.9 seconds remaining. Asbury, who scored five points in the final minute, responded with a pair of free throws for South Florida.
South Florida used a 28-8 run to take 33-16 lead with four minutes left in the first half. Smith hit his third 3-pointer to close out the sequence.
Smith and Altron Jackson both had 11 first half points, as the Bulls held a 39-22 lead at intermission. Maybin had 12 first half points for Louisville, including the first eight.
South Florida won for just the third time in 17 tries against Louisville.
