LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Keith Bogans scored 16 points and Kentucky went over the .500 mark for the first time this season with a 64-62 win over archrival Louisville on Tuesday night at Freedom Hall.
Tayshaun Prince had 13 points and eight rebounds and Marvin Stone added 11 points and six rebounds for Kentucky (6-5), which won its third straight game.
Reece Gaines scored a career-high 27 for the Cardinals (4-9), who are off to their worst start in coach Denny Crum's 30 seasons. Louisville has lost eight of 10 games and dropped three straight home games for the first time since 1991.
The Wildcats led 29-27 at halftime and Bogans bookended a 12-2 Kentucky run with a pair of 3-pointers in the first 3:13 of the second half.
The Cardinals twice cut Kentucky's lead to seven before Luke Whitehead started a 9-2 Louisville run with a jumper in the lane with 10:44 left. Whitehead's breakaway layup following a steal by Erik Brown trimmed the deficit to two at 50-48 with 7:52 remaining.
Marvin Stone ended Louisville's run with a three-point play with 7:15 left. The Wildcats built the lead back to 10 before Louisville stormed back in the final 4:08. Gaines scored 10 points during a 12-2 run and tied the game at 62-62 with a 3-pointer with 58.4 seconds left.
Prince sank two free throws with 26.5 seconds left to give Kentucky a 64-62 lead.
Brown missed a 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds left, but the ball went out of bounds off a Kentucky player to give Louisville one last chance. On the ensuing inbounds play, Ellis Myles tried to hit Gaines with a baseball pass, but the ball sailed over Gaines' head and went out of bounds.
The Wildcats then successfully inbounded the ball to run out the clock.
