Michael Hickey joined the UofL Sports Medicine Department in July of 2022. He currently serves as an Associate Athletic Trainer with Men’s Soccer.
Prior to UofL, Mike spent time working as an Athletic Trainer in the professional, collegiate, and military settings. Most recently, he was the Head Athletic Trainer with Gotham FC. His past positions include serving as an Athletic Trainer with the Naval Special Warfare, Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Michigan with women’s soccer and cross country/track and field, Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Alabama Huntsville with men’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s soccer, and baseball, University of Michigan Post-Graduate Intern with cross country/track and field, and a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer with the US Army at Fort Benning in Georgia.
A 2010 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire with a degree in Athletic Training, Hickey earned his master’s degree in Exercise Science from Auburn University in 2011.
A native of Green Bay, WI, Hickey is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Soccer Athletic Trainers’ Society, and the Armed Forces Athletic Training Society. He holds certifications in Blood Flow Restriction therapy, Graston Technique M1 and M2, Mulligan Concept for the upper and lower extremity, Dry Needling, Functional Movement Systems, 3D Maps, and Active Isolated Stretching. Mike is also a Corrective Exercise/Performance Enhancement Specialist and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He has a bulldog named Lambeau.
