Jacob Bushue joined the University of Louisville men’s soccer staff as a volunteer assistant coach in 2024, bringing more than a decade of high-level playing experience at the collegiate and professional levels.
A native of Champaign, Ill., Bushue starred at Champaign Centennial High School and with the Chicago Magic club program before embarking on a standout career at Indiana University (2010-13). A four-year starter for the Hoosiers, he appeared in 86 matches with 79 starts, helping IU capture the 2012 NCAA National Championship, the 2010 Big Ten regular-season title, and the 2013 Big Ten Tournament championship.
Following college, Bushue enjoyed a nine-year professional career in the United States and Finland. His stops included Chicago Fire U-23, Saint Louis FC of the USL, and multiple clubs in Finland’s top two divisions—BK-46, Ekenäs IF, FC Haka, and FF Jaro—where he won the 2019 Ykkönen title with Haka. He returned stateside in 2023 with Las Vegas Lights FC of the USL Championship.
Bushue comes from a soccer-focused family—he and his sister Megan are the only brother-sister duo to each earn the News-Gazette Player of the Year award. He is the son of Doug and Katy Bushue.
