Leigh's leadership and consistent performances have been the hallmark of Smith's career as a Cardinal. She set a lifetime best in the 200-breast at the 2007 BIG EAST. In 2006, Leigh scored points at the BIG EAST with a lifetime best time and fourth place finish in the consolation finals of the 400-IM. She set lifetime bests at some of U of L's most competitive meets. She set her 50-free against IU, her 100-free at the BIG EAST and her 200-free against Illinois. As a freshman, she was an important point scorer for the Cardinals. She helped set the school record in the 200-free relay. She helped score points at Conference as a part of the runnerup 800-free relay team. She made the medal stand with a second in the 200-IM at Conference. Dual meet season highlights include a second place finish in the 200-breast against Ohio State and West Virginia. Leigh comes to U of L from Senatobia, Miss. During high school, she swam with the Memphis Thunder Aquatic Club and was coached by Keith Anderson and Cory Horton. She finished in the top 16 for the 200-IM, the 100-breaststroke and the 50- and 100-free. She posted Top Five times in Southeastern States for breaststroke, IM and freestyle.
Personal: Daughter of Charles and Beth Smith. Born June 30, 1986. Major is biology and chemistry and plans on entering optometry school.
