Freshman: Steins had an impressive freshman year with the Cardinals as she placed fourth in the 200-back with a time of 1:56.93 at the AAC Championships. She posted the third fastest split in the event. An All-Conference selection, she also was a member of the 200-freestyle relay squad that placed third in the Championships with a time of 1:32.58. She also added a sixth place finish in the 100-back with a stronger preliminary time of 54.26. She had a strong showing at the USA Short Course Nationals as she finished 14th in the 200-back with a time of 1:57.38. Steins finished second in the 200-back against Georgia Tech with a time of 2:06.90. Steins also added two fourth place finishes against Cincinnati and Houston in the 100- and 200-back events.

Prep: Kristina Steins hails from Cobourg Ontario, Canada where she attended West Collegiate High School, and swam for the Dolphins Swim Club. Steins is a national team member for Canada, and qualified for the 2013 World Championships in the 100- meter backstroke.
