As a freshman, Karen helped set the school record in the 400-medley relay in the BIG EAST Championships. At that same meet, she scored points by gaining a berth in the B-finals of the 200-back. She was a 2007 US Open participant for the Cardinals. During the dual season, she was a regular on the relay teams for the Cardinals. She set a lifetime best in the 100-free versus Wright State and another lifetime best in the 200-back in the Indiana Open. Karen, a 19-time High School All-American, came to Louisville from Marian High School where she swam for Pat Dibase. A member of the Brownell Talbot Raiders Swim Club, she was coached by Jeanie Neal. She was the 2003 Midwestern Swimming Junior Swimmer of the Year and holds six individual and 18 relay records for Midwestern Swimming. She was the 2003 High School Conference Swimmer of the Meet and the 2004 High School 200-Medley Relay team that was ranked No. 8 in the nation. She is a member of the 2004 No. 1 ranked Independent School in the nation and the anchor of the Midwestern Record and Sectional record-holding 400-free relay team. She was the first female high school swimmer in the state of Nebraska to win eight individual events at the Nebraska State Meet. She was undefeated in individual and relays all four years at the Metro Conference Meet. She was ranked No. 4 nationally in the 200-IM in 2005. She was recruited by Arkansas, Nebraska, TCU, LSU, and Florida State.
Personal: She is the daughter of Steven and Susan Criss. She plans on majoring in Business Marketing. She was born September 22, 1987.
