Ladybird Tryouts

Thank you for your interest in the University of Louisville Ladybirds Dance Team. The University of Louisville Ladybirds is one of the top competitive and most televised collegiate dance teams in the country. The Ladybirds have won 20 National Championships. We are looking for well-rounded dance athletes who are driven, athletic, and committed to continuing the legacy of the Louisville Ladybirds program.
Potential members of the Ladybirds dance team will fulfill the role of ambassadors for the University, role models within the community and new talent to strengthen our squad, help maintain the tradition of excellence that continues to keep the Ladybirds dance team ranked the nation's best consistently each year.
Here is the Tryout process:
Use this link and apply to the University of Louisville. Send your University Application confirmation email to Elaine@GoCards.com. You will receive the confirmation email after the $30 application fee is paid. Once University confirmation email is forwarded to Elaine, you will receive a tryout application within 3 business days and provide contact information, dance background, and up to 3 performance videos along with the Ticketmaster tryout fee payment link. When both application/video submission and payment have been received a confirmation email will be sent within the week, (depending on NCAA and NCA schedule impact.) Tryouts are by invitation only and tryout status/details will be emailed the between the last week of April to May 1st. Application and headshots submission are not optional. If you are submitting videos, please download by May 2nd.

Proof of health insurance is required at tryout. Please bring your insurance card.
Prospective Ladybird Dance Team candidates should display a strong ability to execute skills in flexibility, tumbling, tricks, leaps, jumps and turns. The skills listed below should be demonstrated during tryouts.

- R & L Leg Extension
- R & L Leg hold turn
- Toe Touch
- R & L Hurdler jump
- Chaine Leap/Calypso leap
- Turning Disk/ turning switch open leap
- R & L Switch Leap
- R & L Tilt Leap
- Double, Triple and Quad Pirouettes
- 2 eight count Advanced level Fouette ( a la seconde turns) combination
- Headspring to a standing position
- Roll back kip to a squat
- Rubber band
- Aerial Cartwheel R, L or Front
- Back Handspring
- Switch Tilt or Switch arabesque leap
- Pike Jump
- Suicide Flip - ONLY if you are familiar on the execution of this hip-hop skill.
- Back tuck

Dance scholarships are determined by the head coach using several factors, for example, years in the program.

The general deadline for the competitive scholarships is usually December 15th so you will need to plan ahead.
