Bio
Senior: Barrett continued to provide valuable freestyle depth to Louisville’s lineup as a senior, winning the 500 freestyle (4:29.61) at the UofL First Chance Invitational. He raced to ninth in the 1650 freestyle (15:37.40) at the Purdue Invitational and registered seven top-8 finishes throughout the dual meet season, including a runner-up showing in the 1000 free (9:29.67) against Xavier.
Junior: Barrett competed on the Cards’ ACC squad for the second straight season as a junior, earning valuable points with a 16th place finish in the 1650 free in a time of 15:12.61. He also swam the 200 free and 500 free at ACCs, qualifying for finals in the 500 and posting a time of 4:22.78. At Louisville’s midseason meet at the IU Invitational, he took eighth overall in the 1650 free and also competed in the finals of the 500 free. During the dual meet season, Barrett was a consistent scorer for the Cardinals and contributed a pair of second place finishes in the 1650 free against Northwestern and the 1000 free against Xavier. Barrett competed in the 1500m free at the Phillips 66 National Championships, finishing 30th with a time of 15:46.80.
Sophomore: Barrett provided a great deal of depth for the Cards in the distance events throughout his sophomore campaign. He competed at the ACC Championships, placing 16th in the 1650 free (15:10.81), while also swimming season best times in the 500 free (4:23.35) and 200 free (1:38.63). At the Phillips 66 National Championships, Barrett swam to times of 8:14.82 in the 800-meter free and 15:44.68 in the 1500-meter free. At the Winter National Championships, he placed seventh in the 1650 free with a time of 15:06.16, dropping nearly 20 seconds from his seed time. In the dual meet season, Barrett put together a solid performance in the win over Kentucky with fourth place finishes in both the 1000 (9:17.72) and 500 (4:31.66) free. For his performance both in the pool and in the classroom, Barrett was awarded CSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-America honors.
Freshman: Barrett showed versatility in his debut season for the Cardinals, competing in the IM, distance, and butterfly events. At the UofL Invitational, he recorded top-eight finishes in the 500 free (4:35.84), 400 IM (4:03.70), and finished fifth in the 1650 free (15:51.22). He posted season-best times in all three of his events at the Ohio State Winter Invitational, swimming the 500 free (4:32.94), 400 IM (4:01.75), and 1650 free (15:35.35). Barrett also competed at the Atlanta Arena Pro Swim Series, finishing 27th in the 400-meter free, 20th in the 800-meter free, and 17th in the 16:19.49.
Prep: Barrett hails from Hingham, MA where he attended Hingham High School and competed for Strypers of South Shore YMCA. He was the Eastern Zone Sectional champion in the 1650 free and was named the South Shore YMCA Swimmer of the Year for the last two years. He was a recipient of the Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic Award in 2014 and was a four-year honor roll student. His best time in the 1650 free is 15:24.80, 3:58.18 in the 400 IM, and 4:32.61 in the 500 free.
