LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville men's golf team will be the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Norman Regional (Norman, Okla.), which will be contested at the Jimmie Austin OU Club on May 16-18, it was announced Wednesday afternoon on the Golf Channel.
The Cardinals were one of 51 automatic bids combined with 30 automatic qualifiers to qualify for the six regionals. The top five teams from each regional will advance along with the top individual from non-advancing teams from the regions.
UofL is appearing in a regional for the fourth consecutive season and the 12th time in school history.
Last season saw the Cardinals make a historic run through the regional and into the NCAA Championship. The Cardinals shot a 4-under-par on the final day of the Noblesville Regional to finish in fourth place and advance to the NCAA golf championships for the fifth time in school history and the first time since 2019.
While at the championship, the Cardinals advanced to the fourth day of competition and finished ninth overall – the best mark in school history.
The Norman Region will feature four of the nation's top 25 teams. No. 1 Oklahoma is the top seed in the regional, followed by No. 7 Texas, No. 18 Auburn, and No. 24 South Carolina. The sixth-seeded Cardinals are ranked 36th in the recent Golfstat rankings.
"Going to the Norman, Oklahoma regional site will be a great opportunity for us," head coach Ryan Blagg said. "We will get to compete against the # 1 team in the country as well as several other great teams. The golf course fits our guys very well and we have had a great week of preparation for the championship. We can't wait to get started."
The Cardinals, who are making their seventh post-season appearance in the last nine years, earned a bid after posting five top-five finishes during the 11 events this season, including tying for second at the Bank of Tennessee in October.
The Cardinals are led by Jiri Zuska, a four-year performer, who is tops on the team with a 71.18 stroke average and has posted six top-10 finishes, including tying for second at the William Tucker during the fall season. Zuska will be making his third regional appearance, which included tying for 10th last season at the Noblesville Regional.
