Ladybirds Move Tryouts Online

Ladybirds will hold virtual tryouts
In this unprecedented time of social distancing and the COVID-19 virus, the University of Louisville Spirit Programs will be conducting video/online tryouts for the 2020-2021 season. UofL's Cheer teams are one of the top competitive collegiate cheer teams in the country and have won 45 consecutive National Championships.

The University of Louisville Ladybirds are one of the top competitive and most televised collegiate dance teams in the country. The Ladybirds have won 20 consecutive National Championships. The Ladybird coaches are looking for well-rounded dance athletes who are driven, athletic, and committed to continuing the legacy of the Louisville Ladybirds program. The 2020-2021 Ladybird tryout will be two phases. Phase one will consist of the preliminary video tryout and phase two will be the interview and Final tryout.Â
Potential members of the Ladybirds dance team will fulfill the role of ambassadors for the University, role models within the community and new talent to strengthen our squad, help maintain the tradition of excellence that continues to keep the Ladybirds dance team ranked the nation's best consistently each year.

TRYOUT PHASE ONE

In phase one, applicants will register using the online application below and submit payment after application submission. Video submission will open on April 17 and should be completed by 5pm April 24, 2020. Prospective candidates should display the athleticism, abilities, skills, style and collegiate look expected of the University of Louisville Ladybirds Dance Team. Your video presentation should be no more than 2 minutes and 15 seconds in length and contain the following:

Candidates should wear form fitting / body flattering attire. Hair must be pulled back out of the face. Makeup should be of performance quality.
Clearly label your video upload with your full name and LADYBIRD VIRTUAL AUDITION 2020-2021 and upload your video submission by 5pm April 24, 2020.

The following items should be included with the video submission in a separate file clearly labeled with name and "Required Docs":
Applicants selected to move on to phase two of tryouts will be notified by 8pm April 30, 2020.

Prospective Ladybird Dance Team candidates should display a strong ability to execute skills in flexibility, tumbling, tricks, leaps, jumps and turns. The skills listed below should be demonstrated in the preliminary tryout video.REQUIRED SKILLS
TRYOUT PHASE TWO

Applicants whose videos are selected to continue to Phase two of tryouts will be notified via email. Phase two will consist of an interview and demonstration of Final tryout material. Interviews will be conducted via Zoom call and each applicant will be given a specific day and time to be available for their interviews. The Final tryout material will be taught via video link that will be made available to all finalists on April 30, 2020.
All candidate will have two full days to learn and review material before the Final tryout video should be submitted by 8pm on May 3, 2020. In phase two, the judges are looking for technical strength, versatility, musicality, control and showmanship. In this phase each finalist will be required to learn and perform the fight song, as well as a team performance style routine consisting of 30 seconds of pom, 30 seconds of jazz, and 30 seconds of hip hop.

In the candidate's video presentation of the fight song candidates should wear full performance level makeup with hair down and a sport bra, performance top or crop top of their choice with black form fitting shorts (NO HIGH WAIST SHORTS). Candidate may pull their hair out of their face for the team performance style routine.At the beginning of the video presentation, candidates should state their full name, school they currently attend and years of dance experience.

- A short introduction stating name, school you currently attend, years of dance experience, if you have applied to and been accepted at the University of Louisville and a brief statement of why you want to be a University of Louisville Ladybird.
- Demonstration of technical skills and tricks from the requirements listed below as well as any additional skills that would be of benefit for the judges to see.
- A one minute solo routine in the dance genre of the candidate's choice and best demonstrates strengths.

- Current headshot
- Letter of recommendation from a current coach or instructor
- Letter of introduction from you to the coaching staff explaining your dance background, educational goals and why you would like to be a member of the University of Louisville Ladybirds Dance Team.
- Candidates should have applied for admission to University of Louisville and/or JCTC
Applicants selected to move on to phase two of tryouts will be notified by 8pm April 30, 2020.

- Turning Disk/ turning switch open leap
- R & L Switch Leap
- R & L Tilt Leap
- Switch Tilt or Switch arabesque leap (optional)
- Double, Triple and Quad Pirouettes
- 2 eight count Advanced level Fouette ( a la seconde turns) combination
- Headspring to a standing position
- Roll back kip to a squat
- Rubber band
- Aerial Cartwheel R, L or Front (optional but encouraged)
- Suicide Flip (optional but encouraged ONLY if you are familiar on the execution of this hip-hop skill)
