Cheerleaders Move Tryouts Online

Video submissions and online interviews will help pick next year's squad
In this unprecedented time of social distancing and the COVID-19 virus, the University of Louisville Spirit Programs will be conducting video/online tryouts for the 2020-2021 season. UofL's Cheer teams are one of the top competitive collegiate cheer teams in the country and have won 45 consecutive National Championships.
The 2020-2021 Cheer tryout will be two phases. Phase one will consist of the preliminary video tryout and phase two will be the interview and Final tryout. Potential members of the cheer teams fulfill the role of ambassadors for the University, role models within the community and new talent to strengthen our squad, to help maintain the tradition of excellence that continues to keep the Cheer Teams ranked the nation's best consistently each year.

In phase one, applicants will register using the online application below and submit payment after application submission. Video submission will open on April 17 and should be completed by 5pm April 27, 2020. Prospective candidates should display the athleticism, abilities, skills, style and collegiate look expected of the University of Louisville Cheerleader. Your video presentation should be between 2 ½ to 3 ½ minutes in length and contain the following:

Applicants selected to move on to phase two of tryouts will be notified by 8pm May 1, 2020.

Tumbling
All candidates will be selected by stunt position. A flyer, main base, side base and back spot. Choose your tryout position based on your experience and confidence in the position.
Examples of expected video for all positions are.
Stunt 1
Combination stunt including a double down (Ex. Rewind, full around, stretch double down)
Stunt 2
Combination stunt including a flipping dismount (Ex. Backhand spring up lib, sponge, full up, front flip to cradle)
Shoulder Stand: All bases and back spots are expected to base a shoulder stand.
All Flyers should perform all body positions. Flexibility is important.
Stunt sequences can include level 6 and level 7 stunts. We are looking for technique, strength and potential.

TRYOUT PHASE TWO
Applicants who are selected to continue to Phase two of tryouts will be notified via email. Phase two will consist of an interview and demonstration of Final tryout material. Interviews will be conducted via Zoom call/Facetime and each applicant will be given a specific day and time to be available for their interviews. The Final tryout material will be taught via video link that will be made available to all finalists on May 1, 2020.
All candidate will have two full days to learn and review material before the Final tryout video should be submitted by 8pm on May 4, 2020.
In phase two we are looking for technical strength, versatility, control and game day performance abilities. Each finalist will be required to learn and perform the fight song, as well as additional tumbling passes and other skills the judges deem necessary.
In your video presentation of the fight song female candidates should wear full performance level makeup and hair, a sport bra, with black form fitting shorts/skirt (NO HIGH WAIST SHORTS) and men should wear Shorts, T-shirt / Polo. Be creative and show us your personality.
At the beginning of the video presentation, candidates should state their full name, school they currently attend and years of experience.

- A short introduction stating your name, school you currently attend, years of Cheer experience, if you have applied to and been accepted at the University of Louisville and a brief statement of why you want to be a University of Louisville Cheerleader.
- Prospective Cheer candidates should display a strong ability to execute skills in flexibility, tumbling, and stunts. The skills listed below should be demonstrated in the preliminary tryout video as well as any additional skills you feel would be of benefit for the judges to see.
- Videos from previous performances can be submitted, but you must be easily identifiable in the video.
The following items should be included with the video submission in a separate file clearly labeled with your name and "Required Docs":
- Current headshot
- Letter of recommendation from a current coach or instructor
- Letter of introduction from you to the coaching staff explaining your cheer background, educational goals and why you would like to be a member of the University of Louisville Cheerleading squad
- Candidates should have applied for admission to University of Louisville and/or JCTC
Applicants selected to move on to phase two of tryouts will be notified by 8pm May 1, 2020.

- Pre-Participation Physical Form (reviewed by UofL Sports Medicine Staff)
- Copy of front and back of insurance card
What to wear
Women:
- Makeup / Hair, Game day ready
- Sports bra/ Tennis or Lycra skirt
- Shorts / T-shirt / Polo
- Clean Shaven / Trimmed
Tumbling
- Combination Jump Sequence: 2 or 3 combined jumps, must include variety
- Standing tumbling: 2 different tumbling skills, can include jumps, for example; toe touch back tuck & two back handsprings to full
- Running tumbling: 2 different running tumbling passes, example; round off backhand spring full & round off backhand spring whip through to full
