
Cardinals Finish 35th in Final Directors' Cup Standings

The athletic department finishes in the top-40 for the ninth consecutive season
CLEVELAND - The University of Louisville athletics department finished 35th in the Learfield Directors' Cup Division I Standings, it was announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). It is the ninth consecutive season the Cardinals finished in the top-40.

Louisville accrued 226 points in the spring season, for a final total of 648.50 to place 35th in the national competition. Eight Atlantic Coast Conference schools completed the year in the top-40, the second most among all Division I conferences.

The men's golf team advanced to the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in program history, finishing 29th. The Cardinals were fourth at the NCAA Regional tournament, which they qualified for the 11th time in team history.

The women's golf team also advanced to NCAA Regional play where they finished 11th. The Cardinals appeared in their sixth consecutive regional, the longest streak in program history.

UofL's softball team achieved several milestones in head coach Holly Aprile's first season at the helm, highlighted by the 14th NCAA appearance and sixth regional final. The Cards collected six wins against teams ranked in the top 25.

The Cardinals' men's and women's track and field teams had five individuals qualify for the NCAA Championship, highlighted by Martice Moore earning First Team All-American honors in the 400m hurdle with a seventh place finish. Makenli Forrest earned second team All-American honors in the hammer throw, finishing 15th, and earned honorable mention recognition for discus with a 22nd place finish. Ivine Chemutai finished 22nd overall in the 10,000m and earned honorable mention accolades. Gabriela Leon earned honorable mention honors in the pole vault with a 19th place finish.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the NACDA and USA Today in 1993-94. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports - 10 men's and 10 women's.
