Hometown star will anchor and serve as a reporter for the soon to be launched ACC Network
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- University of Louisville fans will see "Derby City" native and former Cardinals volleyball player Katie George on ACC Network (ACCN) starting this fall. ACCN is the new, 24/7 national platform that will launch on August 22, 2019. George, a former ACC Player of the Year and Miss Kentucky USA, will serve as a reporter and will anchor in studio.
Â
"All my life I grew up watching and attending Louisville sporting events. To say, I was a diehard Cards fan is an understatement. So, when I was offered a position to play volleyball for my hometown team, I jumped at the chance and it proved to be one of the best decisions of my life," said George. "I have so many fond memories competing in the Big East, American Athletic Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference but playing in the ACC for my two final seasons was without a doubt, the highlight of my four year career. I have so much pride in being a Louisville native and alumnus of the city's university. To think that I would have an opportunity to return home to cover my alma mater and the Atlantic Coast Conference as a broadcaster just three and a half years after graduating is a dream come true. I'm beyond excited for this next chapter of my life, but I'm more excited to be coming home."Â
Â
George joins previously announced on-air voices for ACCN: Debbie Antonelli, Chris Cotter, Dalen Cuff, Wes Durham, Mark Herzlich, Roddy Jones, Eric Mac Lain, EJ Manuel, Mark Packer, Mark Richt, Kelsey Riggs, LaChina Robinson and Eric Wood.

The 2015 ACC Player, Setter and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, George helped Louisville to conference championships in three different leagues: Big East, American and ACC. She was a three-time first team all-conference selection earning accolades in the American (2013) and the ACC (2014 and 2015). A communication major from Louisville, Kentucky, George was a two-time All-ACC Academic team member and was named a 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-American. As a senior, she was named the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Â
Also in 2015, George was crowned Miss Kentucky USA and went on to finish in the top 11 of the Miss USA pageant while receiving the event's "People Choice Award." She graduated from Louisville magna cum laude in three years, with a degree in communications and a minor in sports administration.
Â
Following graduation, George got her start in broadcasting at WDRB in Louisville as the station's sports anchor and reporter covering everything from Louisville and Kentucky football, basketball and baseball to the Kentucky Derby. Most recently, George was the Milwaukee Bucks' team sideline reporter for the 2018-19 season. She provided in-game hits and contributed to pre- and post-game shows on Fox Sports Wisconsin, along with reporting on the team's digital/social media platforms. She covered the Bucks' storybook season as Giannis Antetokounmpo was named the league's MVP and head coach Mike Budenholzer was named the 2019 NBA Coach of the Year. Â
