Cards sweep singles in straight sets
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team rolled to a 7-0 win over visiting Alabama A&M Friday morning at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals (3-1) will cap off the day against Purdue at 6 p.m.
"Sometimes playing an early morning match is not the easiest thing, so I really like way our guys started off fresh, started off sharp," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "We won the first two courts in doubles 6-0, so it was a good start for us… one thing I liked is that we played very efficiently. We didn't drop a set, most of the singles courts were 6-1 or 6-2 and that meant that they didn't make a lot of unforced errors and were very professional and efficient out there."
The Cardinals jumped to an early lead with wins on all three doubles courts. The duo of senior Sean Donohue and sophomore Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff defeated Nishangan Nadaraja and Cristian Bigott 6-0 on court one. Junior Ciro Lampasas teamed with George Hedley to beat Carlos Salas and Mateo Monroy Rueda 6-0 at the two-spot to clinch the first point of the match. Sophomore Michael Quang and freshman Fredrik Moe closed out doubles play with a 6-2 decision against Jarib Beazer and Joshua Wilson at No. 3.
In singles action, the Cardinals swept all six courts in straight sets. Lampasas put Louisville up 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Beazer at No. 5. Freshman Parker Wynn also beat Bigott 6-0, 6-0 at the two-spot. Sophomore Brandon Lancaster secured the win on court four where he defeated Salas 6-1, 6-0. Donohue quickly followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Monroy at No. 3. Junior Santiago Salazar bested Wilson 6-0, 6-2 at the six-spot. Junior Nicolas Rouanet closed out the match by beating Nadaraja 6-0, 6-4 on court one.
