Cards pick up four wins on day one
Jeffrey Brown and Sean Donohue won in both singles and doubles as the University of Louisville picked up four wins on day one of the Collegiate Clay Court Invitational Thursday in Orlando, Fla.
Â
"Overall all it was a pretty good day for us," said UofL assistant coach Jakob Gustafsson. "We had a difficult time getting used to the climate and clay courts, but looking back we cannot be too disappointed. With both Jeff and Sean going undefeated on day one, we look forward to tomorrow."
Â
The Cardinals posted a pair of doubles wins to start the day. Seniors Jeffrey Brown and Alex Gornet defeated Florida Gulf Coasts Andres Alfonzo and Lucas Vaz 8-4 while junior Sean Donohue and freshman Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff teamed to beat Stetson's Gonzalo Arroyo and Pierre-Emmanuel Fossier 8-1.
Â
In singles action, Brown was edged 7-6(3) in his first set against Georgia Tech's Cole Fiegel, but prevailed 7-6(3) and 7-6 (5) in the next two sets to take his first round match. Donohue defeated South Alabama's Lucas Gonzalez in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
Â
