Gornet falls in semifinals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – University of Louisville senior Alex Gornet lost to Indiana's Sam Monette 6-2, 7-6 in the semifinals of the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional singles main draw as the Cardinals completed play at the tournament Sunday afternoon.

"I thought it was going to be another comeback day for Alex being down 2-6 1-4, the coming back to 6-6 but was edged out at the end," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "I give credit to Sam in winning a couple of more big points. Nevertheless, Alex is playing at a very high level and we were the only team out of 24 teams in our region to have two singles players in the quarterfinals and doubles team in the quarterfinals. It was a good weekend for us."
