LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's cross country team was recognized nationally for its most recent multiyear Academic Progress Rate data, the NCAA released on Wednesday.
Along with men's basketball and women's golf, the men's cross country team ranks among the top 10 percent in its sport in the latest APR, which measures academic eligibility, retention and graduation for student-athletes. Men's cross country and women's golf have a perfect 1000 score for the most recent four-year period from 2008-12.
This year, the Cardinals have produced a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average, including a 3.58 mark during the fall semester. During that term, seven student-athletes recorded a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association honored the men's cross country team in February as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for maintaining a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and started at least five athletes at their respective NCAA regional championships. The Cardinals were one of nine BIG EAST schools to earn the award, a Division I best.
Louisville's men finished the season with two team victories, and freshman Ernest Kibet led the way, winning one individual title, earning all-BIG EAST honors and placing in the top 20 in four of five meets.
Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams will be announced June 11.
