
Men's Tennis Tops Dayton 7-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated visiting Dayton 7-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in the first match of a doubleheader. The Cards 11-9 will face Xavier at 4:30 p.m.
"I am happy with this performance, because our goal was to be more aggressive in doubles," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "We won 24 of 25 games and singles was to maintain strong body language and high performance and we achieved it."
In the first match of the day, the Cards swept the double matches to take the first point. Freshman Alex Gornet and sophomore Chris Simich teamed to beat Colin Bernier and Andrew Hanley 8-0 at No. 2. Sophomore Luis Elizondo and freshman Jeffrey Brown followed quickly with an 8-1 win over Kyle MacDonald and Enzo Milano at No. 3. Sophomore Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Van Damrongsri completed the doubles sweep with an 8-0 victory over Aidan Koross and Josh Malyon at the top seed.
In singles, sophomore Luis Elizondo quickly pulled Louisville ahead 2-0 at the No. 6 spot where he defeated Milano 6-0, 6-0. Stiefelmeyer added to the lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Koross at No. 1. Freshman Austin Siegel beat Bernier 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 to clinch the win. Sophomore Michael Lippens registered a 6-0, 6-0 win over Malyon at No. 3. Gornet beat MacDonald 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 and Simich closed the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Hanley on court two.
