Coach Rex Ecarma on the wins over Dayton and Xavier
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated visiting Xavier 7-0 Wednesday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cards posted a 7-0 win over Dayton earlier in the day.
For the third straight match, the Cards swept through doubles to go ahead 1-0. Sophomore Luis Elizondo and freshman Jeffrey Brown combined to beat Zach Mueck 8-3 at No. 3 while sophomore Chris Simich and freshman Alex Gornet's 8-3 decision over Patrick Bandy and Phil Diaz sealed the point. Sophomores Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and Van Damrongsri closed out the doubles matches with an 8-3 win over Mesa Mei and Jimmy Roebker.
Gornet added to the lead with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Brandon MacDonald at No. 4. Stiefelmeyer registered a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Roebker at No. 1 to make the score 3-0. Freshman Austin Siegel defeated Adam Krull 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 for the deciding point in the match. On court three, sophomore Michael Lippens added another point when he beat Zach Mueck 6-3, 7-5. Damrongsri increased the lead to 6-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Patrick Bandy at No. 6. Simich closed out the match with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 win over Mei at the No. 2 spot.
