
Cards Have Strong Day 2 Prelims

The Cardinals made a strong showing in the second day prelims at the Purdue Invitational Saturday morning at W. Lafayette, Ind.
The Cards started the day strongly, taking four of the top five spots in the women's 400-IM. Abby Chin hit the wall first, with a time of 4:11.92. Teammate Tanja Kylliainen was second in 4:13.28. Victoria Mitchell was fourth with a time of 4:21.67 and Erica Belcher was fifth, boarding a 4:24.36.
For the men's 400-IM, three Cards will advance to the A-Final led by freshman Nolan Tesone who touched second in 3:53.38, with Brett MacKenzie finishing fourth in 3:56.48 and Bryan Draganosky hitting sixth with a time of 358.57.
In the women's 100-fly,freshman Kelsi Worrell turned in the fastest time of the field with a 53.54. Fellow freshman Devon Bibault was third in 54.49 and Eszter Povazsay was sixth, going 55.08. The men took five of the top seven spots, led by Joao De Lucca (48.15), Aaron Young was second (48.33), Albert Lloyd was third (48.78), Juan Lopez was fourth in 48.92 and Pedro Coutinho was seventh, going 48.92.
In the 200-free, Kelsi Worrell turned in another top notch performance with a first place qualifying time of 1:46.95. Breann McDowell was fourth with a time of 1:48.95. For the men, Alex Burtch qualified with the fastest time of 1:38.23. Joao De Lucca was third with a time of 1:38.7, Samuel Hoekstra was fifth in 1:39.10 and Albert Lloyd was seventh with a time of 1:39.69.
In the 100-breast, Gisselle Kohoyda boarded a time of 1:04.02, for the fifth fastest time in the field. The men put three in the top five led by Kameron Chastain's first place with a time of 53.70. Addison Bray was second in 54.21 and Michael Haefner was fourth in 56.50.
In the 100-back, five Cardinals made the A-Finals led by Krissie Brandenburg's first place time of 54.50. Mary Mittel was into the wall second at 55.78 and Erica Belcher was third in 56.16. Eszter Povazsay was seventh in 56.51 and Emily O'Neill was eighth in 56.66. In the men's 100-back, Aaron Young turned in the fastest qualifying time for the men, hitting the pad at 48.76. Caryle Blondell snuck in at 7th with a time of 50.17.
