
Davidson Paces Women's Cross Country at NCAA Southeast Regionals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Freshman Madie Davidson paced the University of Louisville women's cross country team with a 59th-place showing at the NCAA Southeast Regionals Saturday morning at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park.
Davidson was the women's team's top finisher for the fith time in six races, registering a 6K mark of 21:49.9 to place 59th overall. She beat her previous career-best mark by nearly 20 seconds. Classmate Michelle Molodynia raced to a 119th-place (117 in scoring) showing, and juniors Cassie Martin - who also posted a career-best mark (No. 130, 127 in scoring) - and Ariel Briggs (No. 149, 145 in scoring) and sophomore Maria Frigo (No. 195, 189 in scoring) completed the squad's five scoring runners.
Paced behind redshirt senior Matt Hughes' 13th-place performance, Louisville men's cross country team registered a sixth-place finish in the team standings.
Hughes, who earned all-region honors for the second-straight season, paced the team with a time of 30:26.0 in the 10K. Classmate Matt Bruce navigated the course in 30:55.9 to take 27th, two spots outside of all-region status, while junior Luke Lovelace checked in at 31st with a time of 31:03.3. Redshirt junior Gordon Dooley (No. 58, 31:38.7) and sophomore Mattias Wolter (No. 59, 31:39.4) rounded out the team's five scoring runners.
Hughes, Lovelace, Dooley all recorded personal-bests 10K times at the meet.
The top two finishing teams at each of the nine regionals automatically qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind. The Cardinal men will wait to see if they earn one of the remaining 13 teams at-large bids, which will be selected by the NCAA Division I Track & Field Subcommittee. At-large teams will be considered based on their regional finish as well as their regular-season results. Final selections will be announced the evening of Sunday, Nov. 13.
