No. 14 Men's Tennis Tops USF 4-3

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The 14th-ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team edged defending BIG EAST Conference champion South Florida 5-2 Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cards (15-5) will face No. 68 Virginia Commonwealth Sunday at 11 a.m.
"Any win you get over the reigning BIG EAST Champion is a good win," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "It was nice to get production from our No. 3 doubles team. Our three most talented players, Austen Childs, Simon Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk carried us in both singles and doubles for the 4-3 win. We still can play better but we will definitely take the win. "
The Cardinals swept the doubles matches to take the first point. Robert Hall and Sumit Gupta defeated Mark Olijaca and Romain DeRidder 8-2 at the three-spot. Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk teamed to beat Wael Kilani and Yannick Yoshizawa 8-7 at No. 2. No. 25 Simon Childs and Alejandro Calligari topped Thomas Estrada and Jamal Adderley 8-4 at the top seed.
In singles action, Austen Childs, No. 30 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings, added to the Cards' lead with a 6-4, 6-1 win over No. 100 Wael Kilani at No. 1. No. 76 Simon Childs defeated Peter Frank 6-2, 6-2 at the three-spot to give Louisville a 3-0 lead.
Oljaca put the Bulls on the scoreboard with a 6-3, 6-3decision over Hall at No. 5. DeRidder pulled USF within one by beating Calligari 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at the No. 4 position.
Maksimcuk clinched the match for Louisville with his 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 win over Adderly on court two.
Yoshizawa closed the match with a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(7-5) win over Chidi Gabriel at No. 6.
U of L will travel to BIG EAST Conference foe Notre Dame on April 11.
