"This was our first ever win in South Bend," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "I feel it is significant because of the legacy of great tennis played here. This obviously locks up the top seed in the conference tournament for us and hopefully will help our national ranking. I am especially proud of the 'Fabulous Four:' Austen Childs, Simon Childs, Alejandro Calligari and Viktor Maksimcuk. They used their experience to have and impressive performance."
Louisville jumped out to a 1-0 lead after earning wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles. At second doubles, Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk put the Cardinals up 1-0 by defeating Tyler Davis and Niall Fitzgerald 8-3. The 25th-ranked duo of Simon Childs and Alejandro Calligari clinched the doubles point by downing Stephen Havens and Casey Watt at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. At No. 3 doubles the Irish team of David Anderson and Daniel Stahl defeated Louisville's Sumit-Prakash Gupta and Robert Hall 8-5.
The Cards took a 2-0 lead when Simon Childs downed Stahl at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-3. Calligari bested Anderson 6-1, 6-3 at the four-spot to increase the lead to 3-0.
With the remaining four matches still close, Maksimcuk clinched the victory for Louisville by edging Havens at No. 2 singles. Maksimcuk took the first set 6-3.
