
No. 20 Men's Tennis Tops Murray State 7-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The 20th ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team completed a double header sweep with a 7-0 win over Murray State Saturday to open the season at 2-0.
"I'm very happy that Simon Childs played four times today and kept his concentration and playing level up," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Our doubles lineup looked good. Andrew Carter and Adam Donaldson played well. Sumit Gupta picked up a nice singles win and I was pleased with Robert Hall's determination - he won 24 games in a row through two matches today. The players of the match were Simon Childs and Robert Hall."
The Cards picked up three doubles wins to start the match. Juniors Simon Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk topped Ben Clos and Jose Berardo 8-3. Junior Austen Childs and freshman Chidi Gabriel beat Luka Milicevic and Mason Johnson 8-2. Sophomores Andrew Carter and Adam Donaldson teamed to beat Jorge Caetano and Jadir Semenin 8-4.
For the second time Saturday, U of L swept the singles points in straight sets. Maksimcuk secured the top see with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ben Clos. No. 84 Simon Childs beat Milicevic 6-3, 6-2. Calligari topped Berardo 6-0, 6-1. Hall defeated Caetano 6-0, 6-0. Gabriel picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Semenin and Sumit Gupta bested Johnson 6-1, 6-3.
The Cardinals are back in action on January 21 when the play host to East Tennessee State at 5 p.m.
