
No. 20 Men's Tennis Tops IUPUI 7-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The 20th ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team opened the 2010 dual match season with a 7-0 win over visiting IUPUI Saturday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cards (1-0) will play host to Murray State Saturday evening at 6 p.m. in the second half of the doubleheader.
"This was a really business-like start for us," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "The team understood that they were favored to win, but stayed focused and accomplished the task at hand. Robert Hall was our player of the match."
The Cards opened the match by sweeping the doubles point. Juniors Simon Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk defeated Bren Vasalakis and Daniel Klingenberg 8-1 at the top seed. Louisville's 33rd ranked duo of Alejandro Calligari and Robert Hall beat Deon Shafer and Nick Volz 8-4 and Austen Childs and Chidi Gabriel teamed to beat Joel Modesitt and Taylor Tunis 8-4 at the three-spot.
Louisville swept the singles points in straight sets. No. 46 Austen Childs picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Shafer at the top seed. No. 84 Simon Childs defeated Klingenberg 6-1, 6-0 at the two spot. Carter, No. 81 in the ITA singles rankings, beat Vasalakis 6-2, 6-2 at the three seed. Calligari topped Volz 6-2, 6-0. Hall cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Tunis at No. 5 and Gabriel won the No. 6 spot with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Modesitt.
