
Swimming Wrap-up of FINA World Championship

Competition at the 2009 FINA Swimming World Championships wrapped up yesterday in Rome. The University of Louisville swimming team was represented by two of its athletes, Carlos Almeida and Pedro Oliveira, who swam for their native Portugal.
Sophomore Carlos Almeida competed in the 400-Meter Individual Medley and improved his personal best to 4:21.36 while placing 26th overall. This event concluded the competition for Almeida who had an great week in Rome also swam the 200-Meter Breaststroke (2:15.58) while achieving personal best times in the 200-Meter Individual Medley (2:01.76) and 100-Meter Breaststroke (1:02.46).
Almeida along with sophomore Pedro Oliveira competed at the World Championships in Rome representing their native Portugal. Oliveira made it through to the semifinals in Rome in the 200-Meter Butterfly finishing 14th overall with a new personal best of 1:56.17. He also swam the 200-Meter Backstroke (2:01.49) and a personal best in the 100-Meter Backstroke (56.69).
