Louisville, Ky. - Head Coach Jeff Walz
(On the last ten minutes of play)
"I am looking forward to see how many assists we had in the last ten minutes. Right now a lot of the problems that we are having offensively are just the simple fact that we have a lot of freshmen and sophomores that are used to being the go to player in high school and all they do is catch it and shoot. We are not understanding quite yet of how to create for your teammates."
"Finally, I thought Asia Taylor did a nice job of that. She drove a couple of times and kicked a great pass to Mo (Reid) but she dropped it. Those are the kind of things if we can continue to get better at we are going to get easier shots at the offensive end. We are not a great one-on-one team. We can be good at driving and creating a mismatch. I think that is the big key for us right now and continue to work on that these next two days before we leave for Cancun. Hopefully, we will see some more improvement on Friday."
(On Chauntise Wright)
"She went 6 of 9 and scored 15 points in 11 minutes of play. I think that is pretty big. They really did not have an answer for her. She got some of the same looks in the first two games but missed those shots. She made one, then two and started to feel a little confidence out there. I think (because of her knee) 11 to 15 minutes is about all we are going to get. I told our kids when she is in the game we are throwing it to her."
(On Deseree' Byrd)
"It is just her leadership, enthusiasm and the aggressive style of her play. She just gets everybody going. Unfortunately, we are not going to have her in about three weeks. I have to find somebody who will step up. Not scoring, not defending but as a vocal leader on the floor. I am not sure who that is going to be yet but we have to find them."
Junior Deseree' Byrd
(How did the game from a three point game to a 30 point game)
"We worked hard on getting three stops in a row. The momentum was on their side, I just came in and told everybody lets get three stops in a row, let's get it. And we got three stops in a row, I think three times in a row."
How big was Chauntise?
"She was huge, I'm just glad Chauntise could be out there playing with us."
(How are you feeling)
"I feel good, the knee is ok. This is a confidence boost for me. When we go to Cancun hopefully we can get two wins up there and come back home."
(On the momentum when coming back from a tournament)
"Like Becky said, it's a good way for your team to start molding. It allows your team to find its weaknesses and strengths and work on that."
Sophomore Becky Burke
(Difference in the second half)
"We realized that we had a big lead in the first half and we just let them back in the game. We just can't let people get back in the game because we are not at a point in our season yet where we can just turn it on whenever we feel like it. Like Des said we pride ourselves on those three stops we had."
(On the Cancun tournament)
"It's a good opportunity to just get away from Louisville and just to get away from everything that we are used to here. It allows us to have a team bonding experience with us and the freshmen. We get a chance to get a couple games under our belt at a neutral court."
Senior Chauntise Wright
(Why do you think you were so effective tonight)
"Our inside game is so strong it's crazy. They really didn't have a lot of height so it was easy for us to get shots up over them."
(On the run in the last 10 minutes of the second half)
"We took care of the ball like coach told us. Like they said our pride was on those three stops and just taking care of the ball."
(On the healing process with your knee)
"It's hard, the healing process with your knee; it's never going to be the same. I'm a step or two behind everybody right now it's just hard, you have to stay focused and try to get through it mentally."
