Men's Tennis Stops Racers 7-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated visiting Murray State 7-0 Friday evening in the second match of the day. The Cards (2-0) had opened the 2009 dual match season with a 7-0 win over Duquesne earlier in the afternoon.
"Tonight we were all business," said head coach Rex Ecarma. "Our players really challenged Murray State from the very first minutes. It was nice seeing fellow U of L athletes come out and make it a fun atmosphere. I thought Sumit-Prakash Gupta played more relaxed in the second match. Simon Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk also looked very sharp. Simon Childs was our player of the match."
Louisville swept through doubles to take the first point of the match. Robert Rotaru and Alejandro Calligari defeated Ben Clos and Jose Berardo 8-4 at the top seed. Robert Hall and Simon Childs posted an 8-2 win over Renaldo Demoney and Luka Milicevic at No. 2 and Viktor Maksimcuk and Sumit-Prakash Gupta beat Mason Johnson and Jadir Semensin 8-2 at the three-spot.
For the second straight match, the Cards swept the singles points in straight sets. Childs picked up a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Clos at No. 1. Maksimcuk topped Demoney 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2. Rotaru defeated Milicevic 6-1, 6-1 at the three-seed. Hall picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Berardo at No. 4. Calligari beat Johnson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Carter beat Semonsin 6-1, 6-1 at the six-spot.
U of L will travel to Raleigh, N.C. to play North Carolina State on Jan. 23.
